Problems are everywhere. You’ve probably even got one now!
However, finding a problem to solve that is in the intersection of . . .
A problem I am interested to solve
A problem I have the skills and knowledge to solve
A problem that another person is willing to spend money to solve
With a solution I have that is significantly better than what is currently available
. . . is actually quite difficult to find
So, I’d like to allocate time to continuously brainstorm and eventually I’ll find a problem that meets this intersection that I can iterate over.
I will start at a high level and will incrementally add more detail. Then, create a spreadsheet and evaluate if each of the five dimensions are met.
What are problems at a high level?
- Environment
- Health
- Economic
- Efficiency
- Effectiveness
- Emotional
- Creativity
- Organization
- Administration
- Collaboration
- Addiction
- Time Management
- Agricultural
- War and Conflict
- Resource Limitations
- Dependence
- Infrastructure
- Supply Chain
- Energy
- Construction
Let’s think about each of these incrementally
- Environment
- Wildlife
- Pollution
- Air
- Water
- Soil
- Noise
- Radioactive
- Light
- Thermal
- Global Warming
- Co2 increase in the atmosphere
- Results in natural disasters
- Waste Disposal
- Reduce, reuse, recycle
- Landfill
- Litter
- Ocean Acidification
- Loss of biodiversity (living things in the environment)
- Deforestation
- forests the size of 20 football fields are cut down
- Soil erosion
- Increased greenhouse gasses
- Ozone Layer Depletion
- Stops UV rays from the suns
- Prevents skin cancer
- Acid Rain
- Mixed with elements and gasses that are more acidic than normal. Can cause raspatory diseases and causes issues with plants
- Dirty Water
- 1 in 9 people lack access to healthy water
- 1 in 3 people globally lack access to a toilet
- Health
- Physical Health
- COVID 19
- Pandemic Prevention
- Disease
- Virus
- Obesity
- Exercise
- Energy
- Sleep
- Diet
- Weight Loss
- Headaches
- Heart Attack
- Limited Energy
- Cannot visualize KPIs in body
- Mental Health
- Depression
- Anxiety
- Stress
- Cannot see a log of my thoughts
- Physical Health
- Microeconomic
- Maximizing Utility
- Poverty
- Increasing revenue
- Funding for projects
- Profitability
- Capital Allocation
- Macroeconomic
- Increasing GDP
- Correcting inflation
- Stagnating Economy
- Increase employment
- Increase productivity
- Efficiency
- Automation
- Labor shortage
- Business Process
- Energy input to output ratio
- Effectiveness
- Go to Market Strategy
- Sales
- Marketing
- Emotional
- Redirecting negative to positive sentiment
- Course correcting action
- Creativity

- Innovation
- What products for focus on developing
- Finding a market need
- Organization
- Managing other people’s disorganization
- Administration
- To Do List
- Priority
- Backlog
- Accurate project plan
- Project progress per resource

- Porn
- Time Management
- Focus
- Eliminating Distractions
- Planning
- Agricultural
- Food allocation
- Water levels are falling faster than replenished
- Nutrients are removed from soil faster than replenished
- Plants are harvested and replanted every year
- Potential Solution: Perennial plants
- War and Conflict
- Preventing

- Resource limitations
- Land to population limitations
- Resource Limitations
- Oil
- Electricity
- Land
- Mining
- Identifying material location
- Dependence
- On other nations
- Manufacturing costs
- On other groups
- On specific people
- On other nations
- Infrastructure
- Building new stuff
- For some organizations to improve infrastructure is to reduce costs of their inputs or increase prices of goods sold
- Keeping old stuff in order
- Allocate budget to infrastructure projects
- Roads
- Bridges
- Fracture critical. Holes in a bridge
- Closing a bridge due to disrepair will increase time to transportation
- Impacts trucking industry
- Highways
- Waterways
- Closures cost USA billions of dollars per year
- Old dams
- Locks and dams prevent water for getting too low for boats and ships to pass through
- Ports
- South of Louisiana is the a port in USA
- For each foot you lower in a dam you lose cargo
- Public Transportation
- Tunnel maintenance
- Concrete cracking
- Tunnel closure reduces nation GDP
- Energy

- Battery Disposal
- Construction
- Completing projects timely and under budget
. . . to be continued.
